The PROPEL Center of the iBIO Institute, dedicated to increasing the number and success rate of early-stage life sciences companies in Illinois, announced today that it has awarded thirteen grants to help local entrepreneurs attend AdvaMed 2013 in Washington DC. AdvaMed 2013 is the leading med-tech conference in North America, bringing more than 1,000 companies together in a uniquely multifaceted environment for business development, capital formation, innovative technology showcasing, world-class educational opportunities and networking.
PROPEL awarded six of these grants to help Illinois early-stage life sciences companies participate in the conference’s Company Presentations. These PROPEL grant recipients included Advanced Cooling Therapy, Diagnostic Photonics, Endotronix, Ohmx, Opsys, and TheraBionic.
“AdvaMed is a great forum to engage with a broad spectrum of the best of the medical device industry,” said Endotronix CEO Harry Rowland. “This PROPEL award will catalyze our growth, allowing Endotronix to communicate our milestones and rapid development to an important network of decision makers at an exciting time for our company.”
“Many of our early-stage life sciences companies can benefit from attending AdvaMed 2013, but often the cost of registration can be prohibitive for these startups,” said Barbara Goodman, senior vice president of PROPEL. “With these awards, and with AdvaMed coming to Chicago in 2014, this is a great opportunity to showcase Illinois’ outstanding medical devices and medical technologies and our thriving startup community.”
